For Me to Poop On: Cynthia Rowley Designs for Pampers

Oh, hell. From Luxist:

Fashion designers have been creating more and more inexpensive tie-ins lately but Cynthia Rowley’s latest creations are meant to be used and tossed away. The designer has collaborated with Pampers on a line of designer diapers. Pampers by Cynthia Rowley will be available in 11 colorful styles - for boys and girls - beginning in mid July 2010 at Target stores and on Target.com.

The diaper collection will be available in pastel designs including madras, stripes and printed ruffles. “As a mom, I wanted other moms and dads to have more options in every part of their lives - even diapers,” said Rowley. “It’s the first piece of clothing your baby will ever wear, and it should be special.”

Maybe I’m crazy, but I generally think that non-special things should be reserved for pooping. The only good to come of this apparent designer diaper craze is the sublimely ridiculous limited edition denim Huggies commercial.

Julia Stiles Styles

It may not be as overtly funny as the Rachel Zoe outtakes video, but Julia Stiles’ parody of celebrity fashion lines and eco-wear is still pretty great. I’d also like to think of it as yet another strike against GOOP, but perhaps I’m just projecting.

Bonus points to Julia for going the extra step of creating a Styles by Stiles website, where one can “purchase” the clothing featured. Claiming that all styles are “currently sold out,” it really leads you to a page where you can donate to The Lunch Box Fund. Well played, Julia.

Rachel Zoe Outtakes From Funny or Die

We can only hope that Amy Phillips creates more of her spot-on Rachel Zoe impressions for Funny or Die. It’s so hard to pick a favorite line, but I am leaning towards her whole Gwyneth Paltrow schtick or “I thought it was that bird again.”

Anna Wintour on David Letterman

An appearance by Anna Wintour on David Letterman seems ripe with comedic opportunities, but judging by the clip above, it was fairly low-key. It’s funny how Wintour’s composure gets instantly interpreted as “reptilian”, which…I don’t make any claims about Ms. Wintour being cuddly, but like Hillary Clinton, she is in a no-win situation. If she’s cool and professional she’s icy and controlling, and if she shows a hint of emotional she’s unstable and possibly going through the change of life. Sigh.

On a semi-related but infinitely more tangential note, I like how it is perfectly socially acceptable to use the word “reckon” in non-U.S. English speaking countries (I’m pretty sure it still skews as hillbilly speak here).

Bravo Rolls Out a Different Kind of Fashion Show

From BravoFan:

With The Fashion Show barely over, it’s time to welcome a new fashion-related reality show to the Bravo network. This one is “Launch My Line.” In this one, 10 people who do other things but who’ve always wanted to be in fashion get paired up with real designers in an effort to uh, launch their lines.

The show appears to stick to the formula of creating a winning runway look every week, they add in the Fashion Show-esque element of having a live studio audience. In the end, their lines will be launched and the designer that helped the newbie along the way will win $50,000.

The hosts are Dean and Dan Caten (twin brothers!) of Dsquared2 and the judges are high-end boutique owners Stefani Greenfield (of Scoop in NYC) and Lisa Kline of Los Angeles.

I think this actually has a lot of potential, if only for pure entertainment value. Everyone thinks they can be a fashion designer, so while the show might unfurl some real talent, there will probably be some real hot messes and diva catfights as well. It would also seem to circumvent the construction issues that always dog the contestants of Project Runway and The Fashion Show.

I can’t find any way to relate this video to fashion, other than I love it like I love Chanel. Happy Friday..

A Lot of Look: Lady Gaga and Kermit(s)

Everyone has their breaking point. In the past I have appreciated Lady Gaga’s dedication to being a performance artist, both onstage and off.

However, there is a thin line between performance art and Bjork, and when you skin hundreds of Muppets for your capelet, that line has been crossed.

Coco Rocha and Dad’s Jungle Book Lip Dub

The whole popularity of lip dubs these days kind of eludes me (we were forced to do them in junior high theatre arts), but if this lip dub of model Coco Rocha and her father doing “I Wanna Be Like You” from The Jungle Book isn’t cuter than a box of kittens, I don’t know what is. Just further proof that Coco Rocha is awesome.
