FO FINDS: LEIFSDOTTIR ILONA HEELS
You guys, I GOT THEM. It was almost too easy: shortly after posting my love note, they went on sale on the Leifsdottir site. I have to say, I kind of missed the thrill of the chase - no frequent Googling to see where they might be on sale, no obsessive hunting on Ebay.
I’ll also admit that I’ve been on self-imposed spending hiatus lately and was (no pun intended) sort of banking on the fact that it would be a while before they went on sale. However, when I weighed my spending guilt against the facts that a) they are definitely still in my budget, b) I would cry hot tears if I watched them sell out and c) I still have no problem buying all manner of short-lived baby onesies, I felt slightly less irresponsible.
And, of course, they are totally gorgeous and amazing in person. This is my first pair of Leifsdottir, and they are extremely well-made - even my husband admired the beautifully stitched leather soles. Despite the neutral color palette, they are definitely summer shoes, so I am going to have to wear the *&^% out of them.
One downside: you know when you get something that you love and you can visualize the first scratch marring its perfect surface? I saw it in my mind’s eye with these heels and it sent a shiver down my spine.

Item of the Day: Leifsdottir’s Ilona Open Toe Pumps
You can call off the search. I have found my perfect neutral shoe. To attempt to describe these pumps would be like a finger painted rendering of the Venus de Milo. Let’s just observe in the humble and respectful silence of the unworthy.
Currently available at $328 (a few retailers have them on sale, but generally in one random (read: not my) size, boooooo).

Item of the Day: Rosegold’s Catherine Wedge
I’m still seeking a pair of non-flat neutral shoes, and these Rosegold wedges are looking like a strong contender. How hard can it be to find a good neutral shoe in a season chock-full of them, you ask? Well, not very. Bear in mind that I’m being extra picky on account of being extra practical and frugal (read: cheap) right now due to recently being hit by that glorious trifecta of taxes (state, federal and property), not to mention outfitting a two month old who practically outgrows the onesie I put on in the morning by mid-afternoon. Gone are the teenaged days of making payments on a Chanel dress off of Ebay (true story) - it’s a brave new responsible world I live in.
Anyhow, back to the shoes. Neutral? Check. The sexy grandma look that I love? Check. Reasonably priced? Check check, especially with the discount code below. Practical for carrying aforementioned big baby? Ermmm…probably not, although I could reserve them for professional and recreational purposes only.
Currently available at $168 (save 25% with the code SITEWIDE25).

Mix it up with Burberry’s Ruched Velvet Pencil Skirt, a perfect alternative to a dress that can weather more formal occasions. Marked down to $482 from $1205.

Channel your inner Daisy Buchanan (albeit hopefully with better taste in men) with Cynthia Steffe’s Devyn Tiered Sweater Dress Reduced from $225 to $180.

Tibi’s Lace Top is infused with delicate Victorian-inspired details like floral embroidery and pleated cap sleeves. Originally $286, now $200.20.

7 For All Mankind’s Dolman Sweater may not seem like an obvious choice for summer, but bear in mind that I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where cold, wet fog will be rolling in in a matter of mere weeks. On sale at $69, down from $245.

ModCloth’s Happy Tiers Dress would look fab paired with layered opera length necklaces. Now $54.99 (originally $109.99).

DV by Dolce Vita’s Pali is a perfect neutral wedge to take you through the summer. On sale at $49.50 (originally $89).

The Accessories

An organic shape is infused with sparkling crystals in Badgley Mischka’s Diamond Reef Ring. Marked down to $84 from $120.

The tan leather material of Banana Republic’s Flowers Headband keeps it sophisticated, not sophomoric. Originally $39.50; now $24.99.

Item of the Day: Stuart Weitzman’s Stilts Platform Pump
I’m currently on the hunt for some beige-ish heels, particularly to wear with my new grey asymmetrical Qi dress currently. These Stuart Weitzman heels would actually be ideal: I love the variegated embossed python with its streaks of cream, pink and platino, and the 1.25 inch platforms mean I could be super tall and remain relatively comfortable stomping around. The color is a great versatile neutral alternative to your average beige or black heel, and would keep a monochrome fanatic like me happy without being boring.
Alas, for the time being I’m going to have to err on the less death defying side of heel height for practical purposes, since I want something I can wear immediately and that I can safely carry our baby in. What heel height is safe to carry a baby in, you ask? I’m going to have to assume nothing higher than a kitten heel.
Still, my non-pragmatic side might win out and convince me that these would make perfect baby-free party heels. Currently on sale at $199 (originally $370; also available in tan and brown).
