Bravo Rolls Out a Different Kind of Fashion Show
From BravoFan:
With The Fashion Show barely over, it’s time to welcome a new fashion-related reality show to the Bravo network. This one is “Launch My Line.” In this one, 10 people who do other things but who’ve always wanted to be in fashion get paired up with real designers in an effort to uh, launch their lines.
The show appears to stick to the formula of creating a winning runway look every week, they add in the Fashion Show-esque element of having a live studio audience. In the end, their lines will be launched and the designer that helped the newbie along the way will win $50,000.
The hosts are Dean and Dan Caten (twin brothers!) of Dsquared2 and the judges are high-end boutique owners Stefani Greenfield (of Scoop in NYC) and Lisa Kline of Los Angeles.
I think this actually has a lot of potential, if only for pure entertainment value. Everyone thinks they can be a fashion designer, so while the show might unfurl some real talent, there will probably be some real hot messes and diva catfights as well. It would also seem to circumvent the construction issues that always dog the contestants of Project Runway and The Fashion Show.
From New York Daily News:
The long-delayed new season of “Project Runway” is set to debut next month with 16 new contestants.
Fashion guru Tim Gunn introduced the style savvy designers to People magazine as the show prepares for launch on Lifetime.
The hit reality program has been in limbo since early 2008, when it tried to move from Bravo to Lifetime. The dispute was finally settled in April.
“Runway’s” new locale is celeb-friendly, with Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Lohan making cameos during challenges, according to the Associated Press.
Not everything has changed though - Heidi Klum resumes her role as host, flanked by mentor Gunn and judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors.
You can see all of the season 6 contestants on Lifetime’s site here, and read Tim Gunn’s dish on them here. Most PR fans were worried about the transition to Lifetime, and perhaps my expectations have been effectively lowered by The Fashion Show, but I think Lifetime might be smart enough not to mess with the proven success of the Project Runway formula.
Project Runway winner Leanne Marshall, whose retail presence was previously almost solely limited to her Etsy store, officially hit the big time today with her first collection for Bluefly now online and available for purchase (she also mercifully dropped the cutesy label name Leanimal).
The collection is more or less what we’ve come to expect from Leanne: her signature petal detailing, and a heavy use of eco-friendly materials. The price point is not comparable to, for example, the recent CFDA Gap Khaki collection (especially in the case of her quadruple digit formal length Elana dress), but lovers of environmentally friendly fashion might find it worth the splurge. Bluefly also has, at present, an initial 20% off discount on her entire collection.
Of all the pieces, I think I’m leaning most strongly towards the Victrine Dress: details like a deep V neckline, soft pleating, banded waist, and back slit give it a classic and sophisticated sex appeal (even if I normally don’t go the coral route).
What do you think of Leanne’s collection?

Christian Siriano Does Maternity
From Forbes:
A rising number of pregnant women are showing off their fashion sense and their figures, thanks to a slew of A-list celebrities and mostly female maternity designers. The modern mom-to-be’s closet matches the stylish and spirited maternity fashions that are huge hits on the red carpet, the tabloids and the playgrounds of Beverly Hills.
Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, who has a ready-to-wear line that was just picked up by Saks Fifth Avenue, launched a capsule collection of maternity wear called Fierce Mamas this spring, and suggests that women stay within a budget by buying just a few staple maternity items that can then be styled with accessories. “Don’t lose your entire fashion sense,” says Siriano. “And if you didn’t have one to begin with, it’s the perfect time to create one for yourself.”
I was wondering what sort of spiky-shouldered dark plaid madness with belly room Christian might come up with, but the line is looking surprisingly low-key and reasonably priced, and definitely a nice alternative to some of the maternity dreck floating around.
