MadMag: Emma Watson for Teen Vogue

Not only is she set for life with the Harry Potter series, but Emma Watson has been on a serious fashion roll: first as the face of Chanel, and more recently, as a Burberry model. As this month’s Teen Vogue covergirl in an Anglomania themed photoshoot, Watson has no doubt further cemented her It status.

The spread is beautifully, yet youthfully, high fashion. It’s a refreshing change of pace to see a teenage actress not styled like a Lolita or lady of the evening.

Swine Flu is the New Black
From New York Magazine:
A memo just went out to Condé Nast employees informing them that an “employee working on the 12th floor at 4 Times Square” has tested positive for Influenza A. “According to CDC,” the memo notes, “the H1N1 virus is a sub-type of Influenza A.” As you may or may not know, the twelfth floor of the Condé Nast building is the home of Vogue. Time for rich people to start worrying about swine flu!

We were recently notified by an employee working on the 12th floor at 4 Times Square that a doctor confirmed a positive test outcome for Influenza A (according to CDC, the H1N1 virus is a sub-type of Influenza A). This employee also confirms being under a doctor’s care and currently recovering at home.
In line with CDC recommendations, please monitor any flu-like symptoms should they arise and check with your healthcare provider about any special care that may be required should you be pregnant or have a chronic health condition such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, or emphysema.
For some reason this whole thing makes me giggle. Ordinarily I don’t find CDC-related matters amusing (although swine flu has yet to become anything scarier than normal flu), but I can just imagine the heaping of size 0 fury coming down on that one sad infected individual if their plight somehow ends up delaying the August issue.

MadMag: Vanity Fair’s Michelle Obama/Jackie O Pictorial

Regardless of what your political leanings might be, the more fashion-obsessed amongst us are generally excited to have style back at the White House. Is the intense focus on Michelle Obama’s day-to-day wardrobe a little silly? Of course. But her high/low mixture of J. Crew with Narciso Rodriguez and promotion of emerging designers like Jason Wu does send out a positive message, even if it does err towards the more frivolous side of things.

So, in honor of Memorial Day (and, ahem, editors ready to kick-start the three day weekend), a few images from Vanity Fair’s pictorial on Michelle Obama and Jackie O.

MadMag: Amy Adams for W

We all know that Amy Adams is an extremely talented actress, but style-wise her potential is still largely unrealized (note some of her red carpet ensembles as of late).

Her recent W Magazine shoot is pretty amazing: it taps into her retro look but strips away the goody two-shoes image, leaving a turbulent yet vulnerable character that recalls both Natalie Wood and Marilyn Monroe circa The Misfits.

In Michael Kors.

In a Marc Jacobs top, Levi’s jeans, We Love Colors socks, and Valentino heels.

In a Michael Kors dress and Topshop jacket.

In Marc Jacobs with Louis Vuitton earrings.

MadMag: Leighton Meester for NY Times Magazine - Hot or Not?

Photographers certainly love their pop art inspired celebrity photo shoots these days. Though my love of Leighton Meester knows no bounds (even upon hearing that she has some sort of singing career in the works), this NY Magazine feature is somewhat disappointing and not on par with, say, the pop shoot of Nicole Richie for Blackbook. The styling is sort of lackluster, and her make-up is more 1940s sultry than pop, which is doubly bizarre with the harsh lighting.

What do you think?

In Diane von Furstenberg.

In a Roberto Cavalli dress and Bulgari bracelet.

In an Alexander McQueen jacket and leggings, Pomellato ring, and Christian Louboutin heels.

In a Jonathan Saunders dress.

In a Gucci dress with Alexis Bittar bracelets and Miu Miu heels.
