Item of the Day: Alexis Bittar’s Flora Rose Dust Link Earrings
I’m a big fan of Alexis Bittar’s jewelry, his Black Iris Pin having long been my elusive white whale (life lesson: if it’s on sale and you love it beyond reason, just buy it. You can figure out details like getting a summer job mowing lawns or selling kidneys later).
In the meantime, I’m digging the more accessible Flora Link Earrings. The color palette and shape lends them a sort of intergalactic appeal, and the contrast of the smoky and rosy gems against the cool blue Lucite hoops is just gorgeous.
Currently on sale at $156.90 (originally $235).

FO FINDS: VINTAGE BEN-AMUN PEARL TASSEL PIN
I have been trolling through Ebay for whatever my current obsession is pretty much since the dawn of time (which is to say, 1994). It’s kind of funny, because I’m not a particular fan of digging through non-curated thrift stores, yet I will explore every dusty corner, single earring and dented shoebox of Ebay. I suppose it’s because the physical world doesn’t come with a search box or control F function.
I love me some statement jewelry under normal circumstances, and for the last 6 months or so I’ve been on a particular tear - mostly due to being pregnant and giving birth in March. For starters, with the rainbow of changes my body has gone through in the past year, it didn’t make sense to buy a ton of clothes until I’m more or less back to my normal shape. I also didn’t want to look like an apeainthepodatron while pregnant, so I found myself rocking the gigantic bling along with my gigantic belly.
Anyhow, two of my favorite jewelers to search for lately (as well as two of my favorite jewelry designers in general) are Bounkit and Ben-Amun, the former of whom sadly does not have a lot of presence on Ebay (although he does have an HSN line, more on that later).
There is, on the other hand, a virtual treasure trove of Ben-Amun on Ebay. You can find a decent amount of newer Ben-Amun items, but what I really seek out is the vintage - so many great statement pieces that are totally current. I recently snagged the above brooch for a mere $6.99, and it combines my love of sweater pins, tassels and pearls in one neat little package.
The pin is pretty singular (another nice thing about vintage finds), but I did turn up some other pieces in a similar spirit.
Along These Lines…

Vintage Hattie Carnegie Tassel Brooch, $54.99 (OBO)

Vintage Art Deco Tassel Brooch, $15.99

Chanel Pearl Brooch, $389.95

18K Yellow Gold & Pearl Pin, $895

Item of the Day: Lulu Frost’s Crystal Quill Necklace
Well, this Lulu Frost necklace is just awesome as all get out, no? With its over-sized porcupine quills and bezel set crystals, it’s the best possible mix of this season’s tribal elements with vintage costume jewelry glamor.
Clearly I’m not the only one drawn to its spiky perfection, because it’s sold out at most retailers (but still available at Sucre).
Currently priced at $368.

Item of the Day: Sarah Swell’s Mini Crystal Bullet Necklaces
More stalagmite than ammunition in appearance, these handmade necklaces by Sarah Swell are certainly eye-catching, yet classic enough for everyday wear. I love them layered as pictured, but if I had to pick just one, I think I would go for the patina bronze version - such a different look for fine jewelry.
Currently available at $195 each ($115 without conflict-free diamond).

Item of the Day: Juliet & Company’s Baby Pearl Knot Bracelet
To know me is to know that I love pearls (or in the case of costume jewelry like this, pearlz). These days I try to choose my pearls wisely, because I don’t necessarily want to be “that” girl who has to have her lame trademark thing, like “that girl who always wears pink. “
But come on, this bracelet is pretty fab. I especially like the juxtaposition of the big chunky retro-style knot with the more modern pyramid stud strands.
And yeah, I kind of have a thing for pearls.
Currently on sale for $34.30 (originally $49).

Sale Roundup

Some of our favorite new sale items from around the WWW. This week we’re obsessed with stripes, tassels, sequined skirts, and the somewhat messy and impractical.

The Clothes

I’m not always a huge fan of the animal prints (mostly because I fear that I’ll end up looking less Bettie Page, more OC housewife), but I am all kinds of in love with Haute Hippie’s Elsa Cheetah Jacket. I adore the draped sleeves and single closure at the neck, and the cropped shape keeps it fresh and young. Originally $365; now $255.50.

Another guilty pleasure in the form of LaRok’s Camo Sequin Skirt, marked down to $158.99 from $228. I love me a sequined skirt, especially when paired with a plain tee or menswear-inspired jacket, and the camouflage print is wonderfully obnoxious. A more practical (as practical as a sparkly skirt can be) and affordable option is…

Banana Republic’s Monogram sequin skirt. On sale at $99.99 (originally $120).

Carmen Marc Valvo’s Sequin Stripe Dress makes me want to chop off my hair, fly to Paris and have a Jean Seberg moment. Alas, the strapless shape and sequins which make it so darling would likely render it terrifying on my curves, and at $566 (down from $755), equally terrifying for my wallet. A good alternative would be…

Y-3’s Border Striped Tank Dress, which has an easier silhouette, easier price tag ($76 down from $190), and can double as a tunic over jeggings, tights or leggings. Either of these striped dresses would look super cute paired with…

Shoshanna’s jacquard tux jacket, with its balance of formal fabrication and informal cropped shape. Originally $350, now $192.99.

Mirco Giovannini’s Bow Sweater takes a potentially stuffy detail and makes it delightfully messy and sensuous. Price halved from $270 from $540.

Velvet by Graham & Spencer’s Dale Linen Foil Sweater, with its longer silhouette and flutter sleeves, is a dressy alternative to the classic white tee. Now $75.50 (originally $128).

The Shoes

Looking like a 1960s Italian bombshell, Bettye Muller’s Twirl t-strap sandals could have stepped out of La Dolce Vita. Originally $395; now $137.99.

Steve Madden’s Carlsen is a great basic foldover bootie with a price tag that won’t have you fainting when you inevitably gum up the suede. Now $39.97 (originally $89).

Despite my nearly all encompassing love of tassels, shooties and Elizabeth and James, I’ll be the first to acknowledge that these Elisa peep toe wedges are a bit borderline. I blame the feathers, which make the shoe go a little too far into moccasin territory - but a simple snip snip of the scissors could fix that. On sale at $245 (originally $350).

The Accessories

Love the updated Art Deco appeal of these French Connection earrings. Marked down to $18.47 from $27.70.

With its circular shape and tassel details, Pour La Victoire Twiggy is more than just a little black purse. Originally $155; now $95.

Equally classic and edgy, By Malene Birger’s Essa Belt is a little bit equestrian, a little bit S&M. Reduced to $168 (originally $240).

These Erickson Beamon earrings give a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘denim and diamonds.’ Originally $315; now $189.

Isharya’s Flower Druzy Pearl Cuff
I feel like Isharya has reached into the fuzzy regions of my brain where all things that I love live and plucked out this piece of perfection. It covers my Blair Waldorf-like predilection for pearls, my Henry How-like zest for geodes, with a little bit of childhood favorite the Snow Queen from Faery Tale Theatre thrown in for good measure.
Granted, I don’t take dropping this kind of coin on multiple, more practical apparel items lightly, let alone on a single cuff bracelet, but I have to assume that some sort of higher power will smile down upon me and either mark this sucker down or throw an applicable discount code into the universe (which, of course, I will share).
Currently available at (gulp) $488.
