Designer of the Week: Ishii

In addition to working with designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Zac Posen, Parsons graduate Tamae Ishii had the distinct privilege of apprenticing under Valentino Garavini. A consummate world traveler who was born in Japan but raised in California, she draws inspiration for her eponymous line from a variety of international sources.

Designer of the Week: Camilla Skovgaard

Camilla Skovgaard first honed her design skills in Dubai, where a French fashion house brought her to create apparel for the daughters and wives of Gulf Sheikhs. Besides heading up her eponymous footwear line, Skovgaard was appointed as shoe designer at Matthew Williamson while still an MA student, with Fall 2009 marking their 7th season of collaboration.

Designer of the Week: Eley Kishimoto

Eley Kishimoto refer to themselves as “surface decorators,” but to many in the fashion world, they are also the “patron saints of print.” Formed in the early 90s by Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, the line enjoyed partnerships with major design houses like Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, and Jil Sander before launching their own womenswear collection in the mid-90s.

Ports 1961 was originally launched in Canada (in - you guessed it - 1961) under creative director Luke Watanabe. Today Ports 1961 is helmed by North African born Tia Cibani, who has preserved the line’s original aesthetic of old world jetsetter meets modern day urbanite.

Having already established the label Day Birger et Mikkelsen in 1997, Malene Birger launched her eponymous line By Malene Birger in 2003.
