Look of the Day: Hillary Clinton Deplaning in Tokyo

Hillary Clinton is not often lauded for her personal style; her most notable faint praise came from Karl Lagerfeld, who endorsed her to WWD with, “you have no real idea what she is wearing.” However, fashionistas are atwitter over her choice of a classic black coat with a richly patterned lining for a recent trip to Tokyo.
This is my favorite kind of long coat: simple and elegant enough to guarantee years in the closet, but with a special standout detail or two to make it unique and interesting. I’ll update if and when I dig up who designed her coat, but in the meantime, check out our Classic Coats feature for similarly inspired pieces.
