REMNANTS
- I’m not necessarily the biggest Tiffany fan, but the new Tiffany suite at the St. Regis New York is all kinds of amazing. Is it $8500 a night kind of amazing? Welllllll…don’t ask me. I also wonder if there is any significant difference between a $100 bottle and a $1000 bottle of wine (it bears noting that I’m a $12 bottle kind of girl). Anyhow, people are already booking it. - Hats hats hats! Opening day at the Royal Ascot brings them out in all of their Philip Treacy-like glory. (Gawker)
- Apparently Ralph Lauren is the Jay Leno of the fashion world, which is to say, he really likes his cars. His well-merchandised garage is jaw-dropping. (Vanity Fair)
- Is there anything better than high society intrigue and/or scandal? Only if it involves fashion! Family shareholders of Hermès are locked in a battle to the death with fellow shareholder LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA. Okay, battle to the death is overstating it. Basically, it’s “a judicial fight over the establishment of a family-holding company and a regulatory investigation into how LVMH bought its shares, partially through complex equity-derivative transactions.” It’s actually kind of a yawner as far as society intrigue goes. (Wall Street Journal)
- An influx of Chinese workers and shop owners in textile hub Prato means “‘made in Italy’ brand at ‘made in China’ prices.” A fascinating (and vaguely depressing) look at the globalization of fashion. (NPR)
