Tory Burch Revamps Southampton Mansion
From 27east:
A fashion designer plans to raze the oceanfront mansion in Southampton Village she was awarded in a divorce settlement one year ago.
Tory Burch has applied to the Southampton Village Board of Historic Preservation & Architectural Review to replace the mansion with a two-story, seven-bedroom home with a new pool, pool house and garage. Ms. Burch is tearing down the house due to extreme water damage the it suffered when pipes burst during the winter a couple of years ago, according to her spokeswoman, Garine Zerounian.
Ms. Zerounian said the house, which is on the west end of Meadow Lane on a 3.5-acre parcel, has been empty for two years because of the damage. Southampton Town appraised the existing mansion at $22.5 million last year, when sole possession of the house was granted to Ms. Burch, according to town land records.
Because the existing house is not in the village’s historic district, Ms. Burch does not need the Architectural Review Board’s approval to demolish it. She is only seeking approval for her new construction plans.
Tearing down the Southampton mansion that you were awarded in your divorce settlement sounds salacious in theory, but this all seems to be pretty cut and dried. No word on whether the redesign will feature Burch’s trademark interlocking T’s.
